What is CEUniverse?

CEUniverse is a website focused on delivering high-quality, affordable, on-demand CEUs in a user-friendly format with excellent customer service. It is owned and operated by FoxyLearning, which hosted the CEU content on its own website from 2010 to 2023. We decided to provide a dedicated website for CEUs in January 2024 to create a more streamlined and focused experience for our customers.

What types of CEU modules do you offer? 

We currently offer three different types of self-paced, on-demand CEU modules:

Multimedia Tutorials

These are self-paced tutorials that consist of multimedia content (including audio narration, text, graphics, and sometimes video or animations). They are mastery-based, requiring correct responding to advance, and developed using principles from behavioral approaches to education, such as programmed instruction, the personalized system of instruction, and behavior skills training. Interactive Videos

These are videos that have questions and other interactive content embedded directly within the video. As you watch the video, questions will automatically pop up. They are also mastery-based and require correct responding to advance through the video. They look like this:

Article Quizzes

These modules consist of a research article and a quiz to test comprehension. A passing score on the quiz is required to earn a certificate of completion. They look like this:

How long will I have access to a CEU module?

Your access to a module does not expire or have a time limit. Generally, modules will remain available for as long as you keep your CEUniverse account. For example, you could purchase a CEU module today, but not complete it until 5 years later. The completion date on your certificate of completion will be based on when you actually complete the module (and not your purchase date). On rare occasions we may need to remove a module if it becomes outdated or if there are licensing issues. In such cases, we will notify you of the change in advance.

What kind of proof of completion will I receive?

You will be able to download a certificate of completion immediately upon completion of a module. You can also download a CEU summary report from the myLearning dashboard that documents all of the CEU modules you have completed on CEUniverse.

How do I access the CEU modules I've purchased?

Any learning modules you purchase can be accessed from the myLearning dashboard.

Can I repeat a module for CEUs?

No. From the BCBA Handbook: "Repeating CE activities does not provide new or expanded knowledge or skills and therefore does not meet BACB certification requirements." 

Can I get a refund if I don't like a module?

Yes, we issue refunds for our modules within 90 days of the original purchase of the product. You are eligible for full reimbursement only if you have not completed the module. Please contact us for assistance if you experience any issues accessing or using our modules.

Is CEUniverse approved to offer CEUs?

Yes! CEUniverse has been approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® to offer continuing education (of the “learning” variety, formerly known as “type 2”) for BCBAs and BCaBAs since 2010 (#OP-10-2021). From 2010 to 2023 we were approved under the name of our parent company, FoxyLearning.

You may also be able to use our modules for other purposes or credentialing agencies by asking them. We are happy to work with you to produce a custom certificate of completion if you need it.

How is the number of CEUs for a module determined?

The number of CEUs provided for a module adheres to these guidelines established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board:

Each event must include a minimum of 25 minutes of instruction, for which 0.5 CEUs are awarded. Additional CEUs should be awarded in increments of .5 (25 minutes of instruction) or 1.0 (50 minutes of instruction). For example, 50 minutes = 1 CEU; 75 minutes = 1.5 CEUs; 100 minutes = 2 CEUs; and so on. Rounding up is not permitted when issuing CEUs.

These guidelines make perfect sense for live, in-person, and synchronous learning events. They are less clear for the on-demand, self-paced, and asynchronous learning events that we publish. There can be a lot of variability in completion time when dealing with self-paced content, particularly if it involves mastery learning or adaptive instruction (as most of our modules do). For example, we have some modules that some people complete in 3 hours, but other people complete in 10 hours.

In determining the number of CEUs we provide for our modules, we try to strike a balance between the expected time to completion and the amount of content or number of objectives covered. Several data points factor into our calculations:

• The amount of text to be read (or listened to)
• The length of any videos or other media elements included
• The number of interactions required during practice activities or assessment
• Historical time-to-completion data recorded by our system for previous users of the module
• Self-reported time-to-completion data reported by previous users of the module

We have considered awarding credit based on actual time to completion, but there are two key problems with that. The first problem is that accurately measuring time to completion in a self-paced, online format is pretty difficult. We still try to do it (you may notice a “are you still here?” prompt pop up occasionally while you’re working on our modules), but there are serious limitations to consider. The second problem is that it punishes learning quickly and reinforces learning slowly. Someone who can complete a module and master its content in just 3 hours would only get about 3.5 CEUs, whereas someone who takes 10 hours to complete it would earn 12 CEUs. That doesn’t seem fair and raises a related problem of how to sell and price an event without a predetermined number of CEUs to be awarded.

Thus, we do our best to standardize the number of CEUs available per module in accordance with the BACB's guidelines by using the best evidence we have available to us. If you ever disagree with the number of CEUs awarded for a module, please let us know by completing the survey at the end of every module (there is a question on it specifically about whether the number of CEUs offered seems appropriate).
