How to disable audio narration or autoplay of audio on tutorials

Audio narration included with our multimedia tutorials will autoplay on some devices and browsers. While our website does not offer a direct way to disable this, it can be accomplished in one of two ways: either muting your device (using its standard audio controls) or disabling autoplay of media in your browser.

The exact method for disabling autoplay in your browser will depend on your specific browser and device, but here are some basic instructions that cover the most common browsers:

Google Chrome

  1. Visit the website where you want to disable autoplay.
  2. Click the lock icon 🔒 (or "Site settings" via the three-dot menu) in the address bar.
  3. Scroll to Sound and select Mute (this stops autoplay with sound).
  4. Chrome doesn't allow full video autoplay blocking per site, but you can use extensions like "AutoplayStopper" for better control.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Go to the website where you want to disable autoplay.
  2. Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar.
  3. Select Connection secure > More Information.
  4. Under Permissions, find Autoplay, and choose Block Audio and Video or Block Audio.
  5. Close the settings, and it will save automatically.

Alternatively, you can manage all site permissions via Settings > Privacy & Security > Autoplay.

Safari (Mac Only)

  1. Open Safari and navigate to the website.
  2. Right-click the address bar and select Settings for This Website.
  3. Find Auto-Play and choose Never Auto-Play.
  4. Close the dropdown; settings are saved immediately.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge and go to the website.
  2. Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar.
  3. Select Permissions for this site.
  4. Find Media autoplay and set it to Limit or Block (if available).

If you don't see your browser listed or these instructions don't seem to work for you, just search the internet for "disable autoplay in [browser name]" and you should find some answers!
