Google Login FAQ

When you you register or log in to our site, you can choose to do so with your Google account. Here are some frequently asked questions (and their answers!) about this:

What are the advantages of logging in with Google?

There are three main advantages to logging in with your Google account:

  1. You do not have to remember a separate email address and password for our site.
  2. It is faster to register and log in because you do not need to enter your email address and password (you just click a button!).
  3. You will not need to manually verify your email (by clicking on a link sent to your email address).

If I already have a user account, can I still log in with Google?

Yes, but there is a caveat. If the email address you used to register on our site is the same as your Google email address, then you can simply click on the "Log in with Google" button on our login page. Our site will recognize your email address and log you in to your account accordingly.

If the email address you used to register on our site is different than your Google email address, however, then clicking on the "Log in with Google" button will create an entirely new account for you. To avoid this and to be able to log in to your account with Google, you must do the following:

  1. Log in using your email address and password
  2. Visit the Edit Account section of the myAccount dashboard
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Link account with Google" button

After you link your account with Google in this manner, you will be able to log in to your regular account on our site using the "Log in with Google" button without creating a new account.

If I log in with Google or link my account with Google, can I unlink my account later?

Yes, you can unlink your account from Google at any time by doing the following:

  1. Log in using either Google or your email address and password (if you have one)
  2. Visit the Edit Account section of the myAccount dashboard
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Unlink account from Google" button

After you unlink your account from Google in this manner, you will no longer be able to log in with Google (unless you re-authorize the link by clicking on the "Log in with Google" button or "Link account with Google" button and agreeing to allow it again). You will need to log in with your email address and password instead.

If you originally registered on our site using Google, you may not have a password set up for our site. That is easy to rectify, though, by simply using our password reset form.
